How to Properly Wash Bras: Hand Wash vs. Machine Wash
Bras, being delicate items, require special care during washing. Whether you choose to hand wash or use a washing machine, follow these guidelines to keep your bras in great condition:
-
Hand Washing Bras:
-
Materials Needed:
- Mild laundry detergent
- Cold water
- Towel
-
Steps:
- Soak the bras in soapy water for 10-15 minutes.
- Rinse the bras thoroughly in cool water to remove any remaining detergent.
- To dry, wrap the bras in an absorbent towel and gently squeeze out excess water. Hang them up to dry.

Machine Washing Bras:
-
Materials Needed:
- Mild laundry detergent
- Mesh lingerie bag
-
Steps:
- Before placing your bras in the washing machine, hook each bra and gently put them inside a mesh lingerie bag. This prevents them from getting snagged or misshapen during the wash cycle.
- Add the specified amount of mild detergent to your washer’s dispenser.
- Select the “delicate” wash setting on your machine and start the cycle.
- After washing, remove the bras from the mesh bag and gently squeeze out any excess water. If the cups have folded or creased, reshape them by hand before hanging them up to dry.

Materials Needed:
Remember that while machine washing is convenient, padded bras and underwire bras may still benefit from manual washing to maintain their shape and padding integrity.
